Buttonwillow SCCA race 2-8-14

My good friend Dan just acquired his SCCA racing license this past weekend driving the awesome and extremely fast (at least I think it is) Orange EP Mazda Rx7. I was able to help him out by being his pit crew. The weekend started off for me by waking up at 5am on Saturday morning and making the long haul to Buttonwillow raceway in Bakersfield, Ca. The moment I got there I was surrounded by the sound of revving engines and the smell of burning rubber and gasoline. We were pitted right across the way from 7’s Only Racing (an amazing race shop owned by Tom and Betty). I then parked and began my duty, helping out the driver, Dan. He Raced very well and was able to pull out 2 victories over the weekend! Good Job Dan!

It was really cool to see the car go around the track, as i had never seen it because I'm usually inside the damn thing.

The weekend also gave me time to concentrate on taking good pictures instead of rushing around between qualifying and preparing for the races.

There were some amazing looking cars on the track, including this turbo BMW owned and driven by Mr.Green.

Like any race, there are bound to be a few mishaps...this Miata's engine unfortunately let go nearing the end of the first race.

This Mustang was undoubtedly the meanest sounding thing at the track this weekend.

At the end of the day, I had a little extra time to watch the sunset and take more pictures of the NSX before I set off home.
